Begin your plumeria journey

Five simple steps take you from your very first cutting to confident, blooming care. No experience needed.

  1. Step 1

    Start with a healthy plant

Choose a firm cutting with a clean, dry cut end, or a young rooted plant. Look for green leaves with no black spots and a stem that feels solid, never soft.

  2. Step 2

    Give it sun and drainage

Plumeria want at least six hours of direct sun. Pot it in a fast-draining mix, in a container with drainage holes that is just a little larger than the root ball.

  3. Step 3

    Learn your watering rhythm

Soak the pot until water runs out, then let the top inch or two of soil dry before watering again. Cut back in winter, when the plant rests and drops its leaves.

  4. Step 4

Feed it through the growing season

Begin with light feeding in spring, move to a bloom-boosting fertilizer once buds appear, and stop feeding in late fall while the plant is dormant.

  5. Step 5

    Track growth and blooms

Keep quick notes and photos as your plant grows, and watch for the first buds. Most cuttings bloom within two to three years, so slow progress is normal.
